  • Quilts I want to Sew This Fall

I thought I would give you a peek into my own to-do list for the rest of 2019… There are A LOT of Quilts I want to sew this fall. A LOT. Granted, this is my GOAL… what will actually happen is another matter all together! Cross your fingers with me, Quilters!

Note: We’ve had a lot of changes happen this month at our house (including possibly moving… Say what?! I know!! I wasn’t expecting that plot twist in our family story either but… you just have to go where your path leads you and really pray for the best possible outcome, right? Y’all, I’m not even going to be able to describe to you how ecstatic I am about the possibility of having a sewing studio with a door!) See my current Sewing studio tour here.

Anyways, All craziness aside… nothing is finalized and it won’t be for a while. So you’ll just have to stay in suspense and wait to see what happens… just like I am! But don’t hold it against me if I can’t complete my to-list!

Ok, no more chit-chat… take a peek at my to-do list for the rest of the year…

The Quilts I want to sew this Fall!

Take a close look at what my to-do list plans are and what projects I have going on the next few months! Here are the quilts I want to sew this fall!

    A Scrappy Pumpkin Quilt

I purchased this pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew LAST fall because … omg. It is just so adorable. and I just LOVE the scrappy pumpkins. You too can buy the Pattern here!

I had to put it aside because I didn’t have enough variety in my scrappy orange fabrics to really make the scrappy pumpkin look – which is what drew me into this pattern in the first place. I’ve been hoarding bits of orange trash fabric from other quilter friends with this quilt in mind. Gotta love a good scrappy quilt!

I’ve also seen the pumpkin quilt done with white and cream-colored scrappy fabrics! That quilt was stunning… So classy. I’m hoping to get to finally create this beautiful quilt this year!

What do you think? Should I stick with the classic orange? Or should I experiment and branch out with a different color scrappy look?

    A Halloween Quilt

I started this Halloween quilt last weekend… You wouldn’t believe how fast this one came together! And so easy just using some scrappy bits a few dear quilter friends gifted to me.

I am planning on adding in some extra fun Halloween bits. Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll be doing a tutorial on this one in a little while πŸ™‚

I can’t give away too many details on this one because it is going to be a gift for my mom. She likes to hang seasonal quilts on her wall in her dining room and SOMEONE has fallen very short of making sure she has a quilt for each and every season! (If only THAT girl could get her act together, right?!)

    An Advent Calendar Quilt

I’ve been wanting to make one of these for years now. BUT I’m completely indecisive on exactly what I want. Cutesy Christmas? Serious Christmas? Bright modern Christmas? Cool and subdued wintery blues?

    I can’t decide!

I’ve thrown my hands up and just purchased a few to get us through the holidays a few years but never found one I really liked even still…

I want a homemade one. And probably not a simple ‘done in an hour’ kind of one either, ya know? I want to make an epic beautiful “wow, mom is so cool” kind of advent calendar… Do those even exist??

Here are a few that I really really like – Can you tell how indecisive I am?

Hit me up in the comments if you have any suggestions!

Not sure who to credit this to? I’m sorry! I’ve searched online to find the quilter… isn’t it just the loveliest??

I love these but I can’t find the Dashwood Panels in the USA?

I found this panel on Fabric.com It might just be the one I buy and make this year? Who knows!

    Another Halloween Quilt Maybe?

Heres the thing… I am not really a spooky type of person. I don’t care for the horror or the gore…

I am also not holding myself responsible for what my reaction will be if you jump out from behind a corner and scare me. (i.e. I might have punched someone in the face a time or two on instinct. – Sorry. Not sorry.)

That being said, I don’t get all excited about Halloween… except for when it comes to crafting cutesy things! Us quilters/crafters are always up for a good reason to make something! πŸ™‚ And I can’t help myself!

This is another pattern by CluckCluckSew (I have a quilter crush, ok? I love her stuff)

(You can see another quilt pattern I made of hers in this post. And This one too.)

Click here for the Source Link.

So while the first Halloween quilt is for my mom… I can’t resist a good black and white quilt and those bats are so stinking cute!

I might just end up making my own Halloween quilt!

    Gifts Gifts & more Gifts!

You know me better than to think that I only have a few quilts on my to-do list, right!?

My to-do list also includes several little gift projects!

I’ll be making these one hour zipper bag totes and filling them with little goodies for the teens and tweens that we know (and some cosmetic happy friends too!)

You can see the FREE tutorial in this post!

DIY TLC Teacher Kit - This Zipper Box tote comes together in less than an hour! Fill it with goodies and take care of your teachers #teachergift #ZipperBoxtote #easygift

I’m still making these adorable Fabric bookmarks with the little bits of scrap fabric I came across because there are endless possibilities with these.

Some of my sweet blog followers are even making these for their classes in school and church! Even girl scout groups and quilting bees are making fabric bookmarks by the cartload to donate to local libraries!

We love to read in our house (Always more than one book at a time) and these are always a useful tool to keep in a basket on the bookshelf for easy reach!

These DIY fabric bookmarks are the cutest! And they were such a fun sew! You could make these for gifts for all ages using scrap fabrics from your stash. It took me less than 5 minutes and I am already sewing 10 more for other kids on our street!

    WIP & UFO Challenge Projects

If you missed it, you can read the details about my personal challenge for the year in this post.

I am also working on completing one of my WIP projects from my “pile” each month and FINISHING the unfinished quilts I have laying around. (You know you have a pile somewhere in your sewing room too… I know you do)

There is NO shortage of things to do…

As I’m writing this I’m starting to sweat a little… there is no shortage of things to do, honestly. There are A LOT of quilts I want to sew this fall!

If you’re starting to feel as stressed about my to-do list as I am… or you’re sweating over your own to-do list, make sure you download my Quilt Project Planner to at least help you get all your ideas on paper!

You can’t pour from an empty cup!

I’m preaching this to myself as much as I am preaching this to you, my dear quilting friend… make sure you take care of yourself and read this post when you have a minute. It is important!

    Happy Sewing!

Stuck in a rut? This is an open letter to all quilters that has some really solid advice on self care and how to be a better quilter.
  • ‘Through the Window’ Easy Quilt Pattern

Hello Sunshines! I’ve been tossing around ideas and sketches for a new quilt pattern lately and I finally just decided to quit drawing and start sewing! Today I’m going to share my Lemon Quilt with you! Its a super easy quilt pattern!

I found this lemon fabric a while back on clearance and I didn’t know what I was going to sew with it… but I knew it was made to be mine!

For more tips on finding good deals on fabric, check out this post: FABRIC SHOPPING – THE SMART WAY TO DO IT IN 6 STEPS

Lemon drops are my favorite candy. I love a big bowl on yellow lemons on my kitchen counter and I like lemon in my sweet tea too. They just speak summer to me!

A Brand New Pattern! This 'Through The Window' Pattern is created to be a fun and easy pattern that is comfortable to sew again and again!

I’ve also been hinting at releasing a new pattern this summer and because things have been non-stop busy, here it is August already. oopsies.

What I wanted to create in an easy quilt pattern:

I had some specifics for this pattern that I really wanted to include:

I wanted to create a pattern that was easy. Like wash, rinse, repeat easy.

I wanted it to be a quick sew. Like quilt top in an afternoon, quick. Sometimes we don’t want to have to ‘learn a whole new language and culture’ just to sew a quilt top.

AND I wanted it to be as few cuts and sizes as possible. Sometimes simple really is the best way.

A lot of my readers are new to quilting and the last thing that you want is a big confusing mess to discourage your shiny new passion!

I really think I got all that I was wanting (and then some) with this one!

I LOVE how fun it turned out! And guess what?! I made a small throw sized (aka baby size) quilt – from the first cut to the last stitch it only took me ONE afternoon. Amazing, right?

I need to add that this was an afternoon in which my kids still came by to talk to me every 10 seconds and ask for snacks or what I was making for dinner, if I could read them a story or draw a dinosaur (I’m pretty good at it apparently) etc etc. It was NOT solid sewing or “me time”.

A Brand New Pattern! This 'Through The Window' Pattern is created to be a fun and easy pattern that is comfortable to sew again and again!

Ta-da… This is my newest quilt pattern, Through the Window! I included size alterations for throw size, twin, queen and King too.

A Brand New Pattern! This 'Through The Window' Pattern is created to be a fun and easy pattern that is comfortable to sew again and again!

You can find it in my shop here.

I think you’re really going to love how easy this quilt pattern is and also how versatile it is.

    Scrappy quilt friendly?! Yes.

Charm Pack square friendly?! yep yep!

Here are a few more eye-candy pictures of my new favorite picnic quilt!

  • A Crafty Christmas Planner (And Free Printable!)

“Christmas already? Is she crazy?” Let me stop you right there and say that yes. Yes, I am a little crazy, ok? πŸ™‚ But I absolutely have my reasons! Stick with me here. You’ll be glad you did!

I’m going to show you how 10 minutes of prep-time today will save you long countless nights creating crafty Christmas gifts running on borrowed time!

Christmas is my FAVORITE TIME of the year and I love love love it! Beautiful twinkling lights, cinnamon cookies, and everything has a bow!… I mean, what’s not to love?

I really love being able to shower all the people I love with handmade goodies and crafty gifts from the heart.

But those crafty gifts don’t just pop up overnight! *poof* done!

I don’t have a team of little elves who stitch up quilts and mend little fabric tears while I sleep each night. (To be honest, some laundry elves would be a whole lot more helpful…)

Unless you want to spend your Christmas holidays chained to your sewing machine finishing up just one more holiday gift

    YOU NEED A PLAN!

Those sweet works of art take TIME, quilter friends!

And THAT is why I am writing about Christmas when it is still 100+Degrees outside here in Texas.

I’ve created a few FREE printable sheets for you to download! YAY! This Crafty Christmas Planner is going to calm your overwhelm and help you have a strategic PLAN in place for your holiday gifts.

      Why not just ‘wing it’?

A very good question… As I find that my biggest burst of inspiration comes on deadline day and suddenly I want to sew a quilt for a friend I’m having lunch with in less than 3 hours! I don’t make the rules, it’s just how it happens.

Those holidays where I don’t plan ahead are just plain crazy town. Seriously, we are joyful, but also just one step away from admittance into the looney house, right?

In contrast, I find that the holidays where I have prepped ahead of time and don’t try to just wing it… are the most successful holidays where I feel like I really get to enjoy the time with my family. – And that is, of course, my #1 goal. Peace & joy.

The crafty artist’s dream is being able to give a gift that will be loved and used over and over again. When the person sees it, they’ll be reminded of just how much you love them and cherish their existence in your life. ahhh… it’s the best, right?

You can tackle the holidays however you choose, but I urge you to try just one holiday season with at least a bit of a rough draft of a plan in your back pocket and see how it goes πŸ™‚

Use my Crafty Christmas Planner and get a jumpstart on your gift plans for the holiday season this year! πŸ™‚ Then, let me know what you think in the comments won’t you? I love creating and sharing my printables with you, but the more feedback I get, the more tailored I can make them to fit your life and your needs better.

    • How To Create A Mitered Corner In Your Quilt Binding

In the beginning days of your quilt journey, every single step of the quilt-making process is new and kind of confusing. You marvel over details of beautiful stitching and perfectly matched pieces! I’m going to show you how to create a mitered corner in your quilt binding.

It is actually really easy once you know the steps. (So don’t panic when you see all the photos below… I just like to be thorough in my tutorials!)

Creating a mitered corner in your quilt binding is a really important step to learn!

A step by step tutorial with a video and photos to show you how to create a mitered corner in your quilt binding! Don't get frustrated, I can show you how.

Seriously, after you’ve worked so hard on the piecing and all the quilting and who knows how many times you had to pull out the seam ripper?!

A sloppy quilt binding is just giving up when you’re so close to the end of making a beautiful quilt!

First of all, if you aren’t comfortable with sewing on your binding with a machine yet, you need to watch this video. It details out step by step – the whole binding process!

It is the exact steps that I go through for every quilt binding that I sew.

How to Create A Mitered Corner In You Quilt Binding

NOTE: I use a 2.5″ Binding strip to start out with.

      1. Begin sewing your binding to the BACK of your quilt. (Start in the middle of one of the sides of your quilt)

      2. When you come close to the corner of your quilt, stop sewing 1/4″ from the edge of the quilt.

      3. Leave your needle down. Rotate your quilt 45-degrees. The corner should be pointing towards you.

A step by step tutorial with a video and photos to show you how to create a mitered corner in your quilt binding! Don't get frustrated, I can show you how.

      4. Sew straight through the corner of your quilt.

A step by step tutorial with a video and photos to show you how to create a mitered corner in your quilt binding! Don't get frustrated, I can show you how.

      5. Take your quilt off the machine and flip your fabric up along the 45-degree line you’ve just sewn.

A step by step tutorial with a video and photos to show you how to create a mitered corner in your quilt binding! Don't get frustrated, I can show you how.

      6. Keeping the 45-degree line tucked under.

Fold your binding line down where the raw edges of the fabric match up with the raw edge of your trimmed quilt.

Notice in the photo how the folded edge aligns with the top edge of the quilt?

Here is another angle of the same folded corner.

      7. Pinch the quilt to keep the layers from moving and put the quilt back in your sewing machine. Sew the same 1/4″ stitch line all the way down until you get to the next corner.

A step by step tutorial with a video and photos to show you how to create a mitered corner in your quilt binding! Don't get frustrated, I can show you how.

      8. Repeat until 4 your quilt corners are sewn. Flip your quilt over. Now it is time to fold the binding around the edges.

I like to use these Wonder Clips to hold everything in place while I sew. (They actually are amazing all over your sewing room!)

      9. To fold your quilt corner into a mitered corner, you’ll want to fold in one side of the binding like the photo below. Tuck it all the way flat up in the corner. This will create a 45-degree angle with your other binding strip/

It might take a little practicing to get the mitered corner perfect, but you can do it! Keep at it. I believe in you!

A step by step tutorial with a video and photos to show you how to create a mitered corner in your quilt binding! Don't get frustrated, I can show you how.

      10. Holding the fabric in place, the next thing you want to do is to fold the top fabric over.
