If you’re new to my blog, Fave Fabric Fridays are the days where we take a break from the quilting how-tos and the pattern breakdowns and we look at the genius minds behind all the modern fabric designers that we love so much. My hope is that you’ll find someone or something new and enjoy a little appreciation for all the work that happens before us quilters even lay eyes on the beginnings of our own projects! Enjoy!

This week’s rock star spotlight post goes to another one of my favorite ladies. Grab your coffee, quilters… this fabric designer has a collection with fearless graphics and exciting floral. Things are about to get funky and fun!

In her own words “A simultaneous explosion of color & geometric shapes.”

Do you love it already? I certainly do! Let me introduce you to…

Katarina Roccella

Her fabric creations venture from bold and daring to soft and feminine and everything in between. Many of her designs have a nod toward the Avant-Garde art movement which dips mostly in new and unusual experimental ideas in the art industry.

She even has a line called Esoterra that has dinosaurs. This isn’t your little baby cartoon dinosaurs. This is truly beautiful lush and green dino patterns, y’all. Just LOOK at the detail in this:

Has the Jurassic world ever been more elegant? Or what about this next one?… It reminds me of a girlie lipstick/makeup test sheet. How cute would this be for a super girlie quilt with the pops of teal and bright pink? (from dinosaurs right into lipstick, that’s how I roll)

Or these bold Flowers and blue stripes that were inspired by one of her trips to Greece!

OK, just a few more that I want to show you, I swear. Look at these modern sketchy feel fabrics! My daughter said the white cross fabric has “too much math” haha… but I adore it because your eye constantly moves around to each cross. And the pixellated/cross stitch flower? My little designer heart just soars looking at it.

Katarina Roccella’s fabric is carried by Art Gallery.

Let’s talk Art Gallery Fabrics for a moment.

If you have ever touched the art gallery fabrics, you will notice right away the incredibly soft and silky feel of these fibers. It’s like butter the way it just melts around your hands, but it is not silk. It’s hard to describe if you’ve never felt it.

Art Gallery is known in the fabric industry for their exceptional premium high-quality cotton and unparalleled weave and thread count. We’re talking wonderful, well-made fabrics. This isn’t your cheapie bargain fabric. When you touch them you will feel a difference vs. other fabrics.

If you’re interested in purchasing her fabrics (yay! whatever you make is going to be so beautiful!) You can find some of her fabrics on Fabric.com.

If you want to learn more about her and her process, she has a blog that you can follow here as well.

I love the work that she does and I am amazed by her fabric designing talent! Katarina Roccella is truly an amazing artist. I highly suggest taking a look through her fabrics next time you want to make a bold and daring quilt.
